the writing(s) of... (2007)
non-(or pre-)intentional notations

The project »the writing(s) of...« is based on a collection of paper sheets from stationary stores, on which an unknown number of people have left their traces while testing writing utensils. Starting from here it examines the idea of non-(or pre-) intentional authorship, narration and composition.

To analyse these semantic fragments of speculative background, several instrumentalists were asked to interpret some of the sheets - knowing about graphic scores and related music visualizations, but without an explicit instruction about how to play. All previous interpretations can be browsed in a digital slip box.

In »public viewing: the writing(s) of...« the project was transferred into a live format. The Berlin-based »Ensemble Mosaik« continued their interpretations in front of an audience, which itself was involved by controlling the tempo of the slide show.
